The MBRC or Minneapolis Bicycle Racing Club was formed in 1975. At that time, there was only one bicycle racing club in the Twin Cities. The original idea for the MBRC was to provide a club for people who were only interested in bicycle racing. Since its inception the MBRC has been home to some of the best cyclists Minnesota has ever produced. We have had National Champions, National Team Members, and State Champions on both the road and track riding for the MBRC. In fact back in 1977 a team of MBRC riders took 2nd place in what was then the most prestigious bicycle race in the U.S., The Red Zinger Classic, beating all 3 U.S. National Teams. No other Minnesota club, past or present, has had more success.
The MBRC TodayToday, the MBRC is still home to some of Minnesota’s best cyclists. Its membership includes many past and present, State Champions, MCF Points Series Winners, and even Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival Winners. These members consist of men and women, young and old, of all ability levels. The MBRC is primarily a road cycling club, but most of its members also spend a fair amount of time on mountain bikes. They’ll compete in a few selected MTB races and ride them throughout Minnesota’s long cold winters for training.
The club has numerous training rides during the week which are very well attended, even by other clubs. These rides range from the social "Coffee Rides" to the more intense "Training Sessions". Although the MBRC offers no "formal" coaching classes, it’s more experienced members will help you out with training tips, structured training programs, and bicycle fit and position. The wealth of knowledge these club members can provide will help you to achieve whatever goals you may have in the sport of cycling. The MBRC publishes a regular newsletter to keep its members up to date with what’s going on in the club as well as with the local racing scene.
